How to configure VmWare VCSA 6.7 to send logs to CQ Server IP Address on port 5140 UDP

You can forward the vCenter Server log files to a remote syslog server to conduct an analysis of your logs and can be configured to send log files to a vCenter Server rather than storing them to a local disk. The recommended maximum numbers of supported hosts to collect logs from is 30.

  1. Log in to the vCenter Server Management Interface as root

  2. In vCenter Server Management Interface, select Syslog

  3. In Forwarding Configuration tab, click Configure if you do not have any configured remote syslog hosts, or click Edit if you have configured hosts

  4. In Create Forwarding Configuration pane enter the server address of the destination host (maximum number of destination hosts is 3)

  5. From the Protocol drop-down menu, select the UDP protocol

  6. In Port text box, enter port number 5140 to use for communication with destination host

  7. Click Save

  8. Verify that remote syslog server is receiving messages

  9. In Forwarding Configuration tab, click Send Test Message

  10. Verify on remote syslog server that the test message was received

The new configuration settings are shown in the Forwarding Configuration section.
