Linux Debian 10.7 Installation Guide for Cyberquest
This guide covers the technical aspects of a Linux Debian 10.7 instance installation on a new virtual machine created in VMware 6.7 environment
1.Virtual Machine creation

Select New Virtual Machine to create it with desired specifications

Select Create new virtual machine and click Next
- Name the new virtual machine, choose its location and click Next

Select the host and resources (compute resource) that will serve the VM and click Next

Select the storage to be used with the VM and click Next
- Select compatibility (ESXi 6.5 and later) and click Next
- Select VM’s Operating System (OS family: Linux and OS Version: Debian GNU/Linux 10 64-bit) and click Next
- Customize the hardware (add an extra data HDD for standalone machines/needs and under NEW CD/DVD Drive select Datastore ISO File and navigate to the DVD, select the Connect At Power On option and click Next
- Confirm settings and click Finish
Datastore ISO File must contain the DVD from prerequisites.
2.CyberQuest agent installation
- Power On the VM created at Step 1
- Click on Launch Web Console to access VM’s virtual console
- Select Install from DVD’s boot menu
- Select English and press Enter
- From Continent and Region menu, select Other -> Europe -> Romania and press Enter
- From Country to base default locale settings on menu, select United States and press Enter
- From Keymap to use menu, select American English and press Enter
- Set VM’s hostname, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Set VM’s domain name, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Set VM’s root password, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Retype the root password, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Set VM’s username (default is superadmin), navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Set a username for VM’s new account (default is superadmin), navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Set password for superadmin user, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Retype password, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- From Partitioning method menu, select Manual and press Enter
- Select available space from the previously configured partition 1 (sda) and press Enter
- Select Create a new partition and press Enter
- Set partition’s size based on needs and press Enter
- From Type for the new partition menu select Primary and press Enter
- From Location for the new partition menu select Beginning and press Enter
- From Partition settings menu select Done setting up the partition and press Enter
- Select available space from the previously configured partition 1 (sda) and press Enter
- Select Create a new partition and press Enter
- Set partition’s size based on needs and press Enter
- From Type for the new partition menu select Primary and press Enter
- From Location for the new partition menu select Beginning and press Enter
- From Partition settings menu select Mount point and press Enter
- From Mount point for this partition menu select Enter manually and press Enter
- Under Mount point for this partition menu enter /var/log, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- From Partition settings menu select Done setting up the partition and press Enter
- Select available space from the previously configured partition 2 (sdb) and press Enter
- Select Create a new partition and press Enter
- Set partition’s size based on needs and press Enter
- From Type for the new partition menu select Primary and press Enter
- From Location for the new partition menu select Beginning and press Enter
- From Partition settings menu select Mount point and press Enter
- From Mount point for this partition menu select Enter manually and press Enter
- Under Mount point for this partition menu enter /data, navigate to Continue and press Enter
- From Partition settings menu select Done setting up the partition and press Enter
- Select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk and press Enter
- Select NO for swap space question and press Enter
- Select YES for Write the changes to disks question and press Enter
- Select NO for Scan another CD or DVD question and press Enter
- Select NO for Use a network mirror question and press Enter
- Select NO for Participate in the package usage survey question and press Enter
- Check SSH server and Standard system utilities options (navigate and press Space to check), navigate to Continue and press Enter
- Select YES for GRUP installation and press Enter
- Select /dev/sda as device for boot loader installation and press Enter
- Select Continue to complete installation and restart VM
